Almost every marijuana brand today has both the cannabis leaf and the color green. I think it is time we consider being more creative. Logos can be any color and any shape. Whether you are positioning as medical or recreational, either way, feel free to think more freely about your brand. For context, beer companies don’t put hops on the front of every bottle, vintners don’t put grapes on every label.
Here are a few examples of modern marijuana brands that are getting it right. Note some of these have green or the leaf, but they use it in a more modern way.
Colorado Cannabis Co. is a maker of oils, edibles and topicals.
Produced by TetraLabs, GOLDCaps deliver a measured dose every time. Free of any impurities, their products contain nothing more than cannabinoids and grape seed oil.
This product is produced in France, (of course,) and offers a trendy way to carry your parcels from the dispensary to your home. Website titan, Leafly, is a design pioneer and was one of the first to separate from the leaf icon. Leafly offers users a way to locate dispensaries, products and services in their geographic area.
Formally only available in California, O-Pen Vapes are popping up all up and down the west coast. This product takes the haute couture look, as opposed to the look more associated with cannabis products.
I love this product. Mountain High Suckers, out of Colorado (obv;), produces a delightful array of flavors. I love the in store display element as well. That said, they appeal more to children than I like.
Pioneering apparel brand RODAWG, creates stylish joint cases as well as other portable products.
Who wouldn’t want to eat this chocolate? What I love about it is that it lets the chocolate pod sing more than the cannabis leaf. Three cheers for Bhang! (Plus I love the 18+ older consent form in the front of the site. Especially for a chocolate product that could be considered kid friendly, they make exceptional efforts to make people understand it is for ADULTS only.)
One of my all time favorite companies, ORGANICANN is way ahead of the curve when it comes to design. Their website uses compelling imagery and every item they offer is well designed.
Kiva Chocolate goes for the craft batch aesthetic with raw butcher paper and more natural tone inks. It reminds of of what Kettle Brand chips looked like a while back. The bright colored labels help to differentiate flavors.
You can find inspiration everywhere. Break free from green and from the marijuana leaf and consider being more creative about your marijuana brand. It will bring more diversity to the marketplace and further legitimize our industry.
